MacOS 8.5 includes all the software you need to allow your Macintosh
computer to dial in to geeksnet.com and connect directly to the Internet.
The dialup software can be easily set up using the Internet Setup
Assistant, which should already be installed in the Internet or Assistants
folders on your Mac's hard drive. If it is not, you'll need to install
it from your MacOS8.5 installation CD.
You'll need the following information to set up
MacOS 8.5 to dial in to geeksnet.com.
Modem Settings
You'll need to know what kind of modem you have (manufacturer and
model or speed), which port on your Mac its plugged into (modem
port or printer port), and whether your phone line has tone or pulse
dialing (almost everyone has tone dialing these days).
Phone Numbers
geeksnet.com has two modem dialup numbers for 56k
and ISDN access:
Greenville - 252-758-2206
Wilson - 252-237-3077
Username
This should be set to whatever you selected as your username when
you signed up for a geeksnet.com account. Make sure you enter your
username in all lowercase letters!
Password
This should be set to whatever you selected or were assigned as
your password when you signed up for a geeksnet.com account. Your
password is case sensitive, too, make sure you enter it exactly!
Domain Name Servers
These are server assigned.. Our Domain Name is "geeksnet.com".
E-mail Address
Your email address is probably "username@geeksnet.com" unless you
have made other arrangements with geeksnet. Your email password
is the same as your dialup password.
E-mail Account
Your POP email account is "username@geeksnet.com". Our SMTP server
is "mail.geeksnet.com".
News Server Host
Our NNTP server is "news.geeksnet.com".
